5CA team at Gamescom 2018
As the adage goes: “Good things come to those who wait”. As video gamers and tech geeks, there are a couple of events that really have us holding our breath. Gamescom in Germany is one of them!
With an impressive 370,000 visitors from 114 countries and this year celebrating its 10th edition, Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, is one of the most feted gaming trade fairs on Earth. So unsurprisingly, for one week the Koelnmesse exhibition halls become a magnet attracting gamers and developers not just from all over Europe, but indeed the world.
So let’s face it, we simply couldn’t miss this opportunity to check out the newest premieres and updates from the industry! A few colleagues of ours had the chance to visit Cologne and experience this spectacular event and test-drive a few new games for themselves. Read on to find out what they made of it all!
Q: Hey Rebeca! What was your favorite part of Gamescom?
My favorite booth was Blizzard’s, which was huge. They really did well in presenting their games in all of their glory. In each of the booths, we had a chance to not only try out new games but also enjoy the company of other players.
I especially liked the World of Warcraft and Hearthstone areas and props. They managed to re-create game-worlds in their dedicated areas. It was my first time playing Hearthstone but I can say without a doubt that this special atmosphere made my first experience really great.
The Razer booth was impressive, displaying a big variety of our favorite gaming gear and giving us the opportunity to try new products. I must say that I was also impressed by the gaming area within the Razer booth and was privileged to use my not-so-polished skills playing Fortnite!
Q: At Gamescom, most of the gaming companies had dedicated areas and booths. Which one was your favorite?
When visiting the Gamescom I particularly enjoyed the Razer and World War 3 booths. At Razer’s booth, we got to play a variety of games running on their systems as well as consoles. Needless to say, the gaming gear in use was all Razer gear. Whilst we didn’t get to try the game at the World War 3 booth (we were just there too late) we got some really cool pictures with the staff who were all geared up like the soldiers in the game!
Additionally, they answered some of our questions, so we left even more hyped for the game than before our visit! I’d also like to give an honorable mention to Epic Games for the Fortnite booth, the set-up they had was insane even though I don’t play the game.
Q: Gamescom is all about new premieres – did you had a chance to test any of new games?
Yes! I was able to test out Jump Force on the Xbox booth, FIFA 19 and played Rocket League, Dragon Ball FighterZ and Fortnite at the Razer booth!
After the long day visiting all the halls, we all (5CA team) went out for dinner at a Mexican restaurant right outside the Gamescom complex (Kölnmesse) where we had fajitas with some Mexican beers! Great ending of an amazing day!
